Postings: pay ranges employers published, collected October 15, 2026. Wage offers: employer-reported wage offers in PERM and LCA filings with the U.S. Department of Labor, decided July 2025 – June 2026. They are not job postings. Annual pay is hourly pay times 2,080 hours. Dentists in practices are often paid on production or a percentage of collections, so a posted base may not show the full picture. 59% of the dental roles with published pay come from Aspen Dental, so the posting medians mostly reflect its pay levels; wage offers in federal filings add other employers.

Where dental professionals work

  • Dental service organizations (DSOs): multi-location groups that run the business side so the team can focus on patients.
  • Private and group practices: general, family and specialty practices.
  • Community health centers: federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) and safety-net clinics with dental programs.
  • Hospitals and academic centers: hospital dental clinics, oral surgery services and university dental schools.
  • Public health and government: county health departments, the military and the Veterans Health Administration.

Licensing in brief

Dentists, dental hygienists and many dental assistants are licensed or registered by a state board of dentistry, and the rules differ by state. The nurse compact does not apply. Moving states usually means applying for licensure by credentials with the new board.

How we work with dental teams

  • Permanent placement: direct hire of dentists, hygienists, assistants and office teams.
  • Per diem and temp: flexible shifts for hygienists and assistants, and coverage for practices.
  • Locum tenens dentists: coverage for a leave, a vacancy or a seasonal gap.
  • Your recruiter reaches you by email only, shows pay up front and submits your profile only after your written OK.

Employer-reported wage offers for dentists in federal filings have a median of $89.37 per hour (about $185,890 a year) across 1,198 offers (July 2025 – June 2026). Many dentists are paid on production, so offers vary widely.

Do I need a new license to work in another state?
