Perform diagnostic echocardiography examinations using two-dimensional (2D), M-mode, pulse wave, continuous wave, and color Doppler ultrasound techniques. Prepare and position patients, review pertinent medical history, and explain examination procedures to ensure quality diagnostic studies. Operate and adjust ultrasound equipment to obtain diagnostic-quality cardiac images and adapt imaging techniques for technically difficult examinations. Identify, document, and report abnormal cardiac structures, blood flow patterns, and other significant findings to the interpreting physician.
